The Institute of Sociology at Warsaw University is one of the leading sociological institutions in Poland. Its primary goal is the instruction of students in sociological research, but it also has vast experience in carrying out all facets of sociological research. The State Committee for Science recently evaluated the Institute and ranked it as Grade A - the highest possible rank in Poland. The Institute of Sociology employs 19 full professors and 30 doctors (adjuncts). An additional 75 young researchers are currently prepared for a career as sociologists in the Institute's PhD programme. The Institute is divided in twelve sub-units or chairs, including the Chair of Methodology of Sociological Research, the Chair of Sociology of Work and Organization, the Chair of Rural and Urban Sociology, the Chair of Social Statistics, Demography and Mathematical Sociology, the Chair of Social Problems and Social Planning, the Chair of Political Sociology, the Chair of Sociology of Education, the Chair of Sociology of Culture, the Chair of History of Sociological Thought, the Chair of General Sociology, the Social Change Unit, the Labour Relations and Human Resources Unit, and the Data Processing Unit.
