HIVA is a research institute attached to the Catholic University of Leuven (K.U.Leuven) in Flanders, Belgium. It specialises in policy-oriented academic research.
The department 'Work and Organisation' carries out research on how work is organised in the economy: How companies and public institutions develop their work organisation? What personnel policies accompany the organisation of work? In what way can employees have a voice in the establishment of the work organisation and human resources management? What problems and challenges arise in this regard related to employment conditions, quality of work and industrial relations? These questions are dealt with in four specific research areas:
- Organisational innovation, the employment relationship and participation;
- Human resources management and diversity management;
- Quality of working life and well-being at work;
- Employment conditions and social dialogue.
The mission is to conduct scientific research of high quality in order to develop ‘sound’ policy recommendations to stimulate the quality and sustainability of jobs and to assess the effects of different actors – from the local to the global level – on this quality and sutainability. Special attention is in this regard given to equal opportunities and the way inequalities can be tackled by participation and dialogue.
