Forschungs- und Beratungsstelle Arbeitswelt (FORBA)
Working Lives Research Centre, Vienna

The coordinator of the PIQUE project, FORBA is an independent research institute established in 1991 as a not for profit organisation. The institute specialises in social science research in the area of working life. Employing a staff of around 20, including 14 senior and junior researchers, the institute is both interdisciplinary (sociology, political science, gender research and IT) and international in character. Changes in working life are at the core of FORBA’s research programmes. These cover both the macro level of trends in the labour market and the micro level of innovations in the workplace, with a focus on four major areas of research: “Sustainable working life”, “Work, gender, politics”, “Work, organisation, internationalisation” and “Technology design and data protection”.

FORBA has vast experience in carrying out and directing both national and international projects, funded by, amongst others, the European Commission, the European Social Found and the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions. FORBA was the coordinator of the EU project “Socio-economic change, individual reactions and the appeal of the extreme right” (SIREN, IHP Programme, 2001-2004) and is currently involved in a number of EU projects, including ‘Work organisation and restructuring in the knowledge economy’ (WORKS, 2005-2009), ‘Dynamics of national employment models’ (DYNAMO, 2004-2007) and ‘Resources, rights and capabilities: In search of social foundations in Europe’ (CAPRIGHT, 2007-2009).
